The IST Ambassadors soccer team capped off an amazing year today with a stirring come-from-behind victory against a surprisingly resistant teachers' outfit.
The students went into the match high on confidence after some impressive performances throughout the season. However, a couple of late inclusions that had salary cap auditors throughout Tucson on red alert, combined with a strong resolve from the staff, ensured the match would not be a walk-over.
The teachers came out firing in the opening stages, spreading the ball well before they opened the scoring through a Mr Drame special. The students hit back soon after before the faculty again pulled ahead through Head of School Mr Young. Just when things were looking bleak for the home side, as they have done all year, they managed to find another gear when needed and levelled the scores before half-time.
The match developed into a real arm-wrestle with only superb defense from the students preventing more points for the faculty. They could not however stop an unlucky own goal and found themselves down by a goal with little time left in the match.
On cue, the students sprung to life and put in two outstanding goals to end the match and with it the hopes of an unlikely staff victory, almost as if the Ambassadors were just keeping their adoring fans on the edge of their seats on purpose. For the second time in a week the students prevailed over the staff and with it entered another chapter in an increasingly impressive list of achievements for IST Soccer.
