Play Groups

Research shows that the best time to expose your child to the sounds of other languages is from birth to about age three; and the best time for language acquisition is from birth to around age seven. Research also shows that knowing another language makes your child’s brain bigger.

Painted faceIST’s play groups are a language exposure programme for children 12– to 36-month-old, together with a parent or care-giver. Our play groups also are a great way to introduce you and your child to IST. As numbers allow, groups are split :

  • 12 – 24 months = emerging verbal, beginning to move independently
  • 18 – 36 months = verbal, moves independently

Each play group is limited to 8 parent/child pairings to ensure maximum participation from each child. Warning: parents are also expected to sing, clap hands and have fun!

Please contact the Head of Admissions for more information.

Semester I 2012/2013

IST is now enrolling for a parent/child play group for Spanish language. The play group is led by IST teacher Lucy Gardner, who is a native Spanish speaker and fluent in English. Led by Sra. Gardner, parents and children will play learning games while Sra. Gardner begins speaking Spanish to your child. This play group is also a great beginning for parents who wish to enroll their children in IST's acclaimed Spanish language-immersion preschool program.
