IST’s main campus is close to downtown Tucson, handy to nearby parks and sports facilities and within easy reach of many of the city’s museums, galleries and other amenities essential to our Field Trips and Visits programmes. We are also within easy walking and biking distance of the University of Arizona (we are about five blocks north of the University Medical Center / Diamond Children's Hospital). Parents have been known to leave their car in our carpark and to cycle or skateboard to class! .![]()
The area surrounding IST is residential. We are two blocks from Campbell Avenue, a major north-south arterial road without actually being on it, adding further to the safety and comfort of our students. We are about a kilometre north of the Campbell/Speedway gateway to the University of Arizona and about a kilometre from the I-10, Tucson's major freeway. Tucson's Sun-Tran bus routes #9 (from Downtown) and #15 pass by to the east.
Pre-School (the former main campus - 1730 North First Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85719)
IST’s Pre-School building (for Reception and Transition classes only and temporary until we have our new campus licensed for Pre-School) offers four large bright, modern and spacious purpose-built classrooms for our youngest students and a fifth smaller room. An additional building with three smaller classrooms located behind the main building is accessed through the main building. Access to the Pre-School is possible only through a single point-of-entry, controlled by a large observation window from the School Office. The interior exit door to the foyer is child-proof meaning that your child can not leave.
The fully enclosed play-yard provides a safe and secure environment with age-appropriate equipment which encourages responsibility and safe risk-taking. The first group of trees is now seven years-old and provides shade and a calming appearance, although they are not yet ready for climbing! The second group of trees provide only promise as yet. The play-yard includes garden areas, drinking fountains, a shaded and misted lunch area and space to ride scooters and tricycles.

Main Campus, Junior School and Administration (1701 East Seneca Street, Tucson, AZ 85719)
Our main campus is the former Jefferson Park School, built in 1944/1945 and offering 12 large bright classrooms, a library / resource centre and assembly / events hall. A gym/multi-purpose building with several additional rooms was more recently added. An enclosed courtyard includes an outdoor stage; we also have a small sports-field and a number of different play-spaces including an outdoor basketball court.
Please click here for details on how to find us. If you prefer to use GPS, please be advised that (a) UA / UMC expansion has led to many former neighbourhood streets being closed and (b) the Grant Road widening will lead to street closures and access changes. Please access the school from Campbell Avenue and avoid driving through the neighbourhood; we suggest that you click here for details on how to find us.
Parking
Parking is available on the school campus with access from the North Martin Avenue / East Hampton Street intersection. On-street parking is available, however visitors are warned to follow parking codes as "Parkwise" does patrol the area.
