The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) has strived to improve the quality of group programs for young children since its founding in 1926. Using standards (10 broad statements that describe critical components of early childhood program functioning) and their criteria (the definitions of how programs meet a specific standard), NAEYC believes their vision can be achieved.
The ten standards are as follows:
1. Relationships
2. Curriculum
3. Teaching
4. Assessment of Child Progress
5. Health
6. Teachers
7. Families
8. Community Relationships
9. Physical Environment
10. Leadership and Management
