Enrolment Options

Pre-School

Reception

Entry-level and offered in all IST's language sections. This level is the only level where half-time (five AM or five PM sessions) or part-time (one, two, three or four days) enrolment is possible, although we must warn you that most of these students pressure their parents to attend full-time before the parents are ready!! Full-time enrolment is also available. Students may enter this class if they will turn three before the semester break (Autumn or Spring), or are three years-old already, and are socially and emotionally ready for Pre-School. They must be fully potty-trained. For 2011/2012, Chinese, French, German and Spanish is offered. Typically ages three and four.

Transition

Continuation level. This level is for full-time enrolment only. Placement in this class is by the appropriateness of the level for each child rather than his/her birthdate. Transition does not exist in all langauge sections; for example, French and German students typically spend two years in either Reception or Foundation. For 2011/2012, Spanish is offered.

Foundation

Continuation level. This level is for full-time enrolment only. Placement in this class is by the appropriateness of the level for each child rather than his/her birthdate. This is typically the last opportunity for students without conversational ability in their anticipated Language A to be accepted to IST. For 2011/2012, Chinese, French, German and Spanish is offered. Typically ages five and six.

Junior School

J1 - J5    

These levels are for full-time enrolment only. Placement in these classes is by the appropriateness of the level for each child rather than his/her birthdate. Due to students' differing competency levels, different national programmes starting at different times and interruptions in schooling resulting from family moves, IST Junior School classes can have age ranges of up to three years and can overlap in terms of age.

It is unlikely that a student will be accepted into an IST Junior School class if his/her language, academic and social/emotional levels are below those of the group. Provision can be made for private tutoring to bring a student to the appropriate level, which will incur an extra fee.
