Enrolment

Enrolment at the International School of Tucson (IST) has three stages.

The first step

Drei madchenThe parent(s) of the prospective student(s) meet(s) with the Head of School to review the School and its programmes. One of the aims of this meeting is for the family to decide if IST’s philosophies and approaches are consistent with the family’s. For older students, it is also an opportunity to establish whether the child(ren) would meet the academic and language requirements for the grade level to which s/he is applying and whether s/he would be likely to succeed at that grade level. Should the family decide to proceed, they will be given a Registration Pack.

International and out-of-state applicants may contact the Head of School directly for details as to how they might register their child(ren).

The second step

KinderThe family completes the Registration forms, and submits these together with the Registration Fee(s). If the application is for immediate entry, they would then normally receive the Enrolment Pack, however the enrolment preferences below may occasionally apply.

If the application is not for immediate entry, the child is then placed on a Waiting List until a place becomes available. When a place does become available, it is offered to those on the Waiting List following the preferences below. The family has a set time to respond after which the offer will lapse, however the family may elect to maintain its place on the Waiting List for future consideration. To accept the offer, the family pays an Enrolment Deposit which is deducted from the Tuition Fees payable at the time of Enrolment.

A place cannot be offered to a child who is not on a Waiting List. Offers for the following academic year are made to those families on the Waiting Lists around 1 March; any places remaining are released to Open Enrolment 1 April.

The third step

JS Puppet ShowFollowing the family’s acceptance of a place, the Enrolment procedure is completed by submitting such forms as vaccination records and the "Tuition Fee Agreement" form together with the first Tuition Fee payment. This should be done around 15 July for the following academic year.

Enrolment Preferences

Preference is given to registered students in the order of seniority (length of time on the Waiting List) within each preference :

  • The applicant has a sibling at IST (for Semester I entry, sibling preference applies only if the applicant has been registered prior to the end of the January prior to the academic year in question)
  • The applicant would be attending IST full-time
  • The applicant and/or his/her family would contribute to IST
  • The applicant would gain from the program(s) offered by IST
  • The applicant lives within a five-mile radius of IST

Non-Discrimination Policy

The International School of Tucson does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion or national heritage and each child is accepted on his / her individual merits.

Note:

*Please note that as we are an international school, we are using international spelling on this website. Accordingly, we have used “enrolment” instead of “enrollment”. However, as we are located in the US, the grammar, spelling and vocabulary we teach in our English programme is Standard American English, although expect our students to be aware that other conventions exist.
